New rules for rental properties
Changes to the Residential Tenancy Act requires insulation to be retrofitted to all rental properties before 1 July, 2019. This is about providing a warm, dry, healthy living environment for tenants. It also increases property values and helps with home maintenance.
What does this mean?
- All rental properties must have adequate ceiling and underfloor insulation by 1 July, 2019.
- Existing insulation must be dry, in reasonable condition, with no gaps, and meet minimum requirements.
- All new tenancy agreements must include an insulation statement outlining the location, type, and condition of insulation in the property.
- Failure to comply with these regulations can result in fines of up to $4000.
